Brecon food Festival.jpgThe annual Brecon Beacons Food Festival will open its doors at Brecon Market Hall this Saturday 1st October from 10am -5pm. The festival, now in its 19th year, promises a fantastic selection of local food and drink – some of the very best to be found in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Festival goers can look forward to sampling a range of produce from bread to beers and cheese to Welsh cakes with most items travelling less miles than the visitors themselves. Foody highlights will include cooking demonstrations from award winning chefs including Welsh Celebratory Chef, Nerys Howells at 11am, Welsh Culinary Olympic Chefs Ryan Jones and Colin Grey at 12noon and Shaun Bailey at 1pm.

The entertainment continues into afternoon with Derek Brockway and Sue Charles from the BBC Wales Weather team at 2pm and Brecon’s very own Bake Off with an added touch of comedy at 3pm. At 3.45pm the cook from Gwernyfed High School will be round off a wonderful day’s entertainment.

Food Festival organiser and Catering Manager for Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, Andrew Powell says, “The Food Festival is always a popular event. It’s an enjoyable day out for everyone and our visitors go home with their shopping bags full of delicious welsh produce. The added music from Little West-enders, the Talgarth Male Voice Choir, Builth Wells Ladies Choir and Tony Royale add an extra reason to visit the festival this Saturday.”

Cllr Geraint Hopkins, a Member at the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority added, “This highlight of any food lovers calendar is not to be missed. Its timing with the harvest season is perfect and the food and drink on offer is at its best. Brecon Beacons Food Festival is the perfect day out for everyone – from those who are passionate about their food to those who are happy to taste.”

The festival is supported by the Welsh Government through the Food Festival Grant Scheme.
