We ate outside every evening, enjoying the view of the beautiful Brecon mountains, and one evening cooked on the excellent barbecue. Cwmcynwyn Farm Barn is set within the National Park and the surroundings really are amazing – the luminous golden light on the mountainside at dusk was particularly stunning.
Hay on Wye was just 40 minutes away and we spent an enjoyable day at the literary festival. En route we stopped off at the lovely River Cafe and had a delicious lunch, and a refreshing paddle at the riverbank beach nearby.
We had another fun day at the Cantref Activity Centre just five minutes’ drive from our house. Set in a truly stunning location with an enormous slide, tractor rides, cafe, indoor soft play area, pony rides and much more, it was a great day out for all of us.
The medieval re-enactment at Tretower Castle and Castle, about half an hour from the house, was a lovely experience. The archery display was fascinating and great fun, and the recreation of the village was full of amazing details and authentic touches, from weaponry to board games. The enthusiastic staff there really brought the history of the place to life. The castle itself is stunning and the children loved exploring it.
