There’s so much going on in the Brecon Beacons in the lead up to Christmas but here’s our Top 10 with cottage suggestions to boot!
1. Brecon Cathedral Fair – 5th-9th December 2013
Brecon Cathedral are putting on four days of festive events with choirs, mulled wine and mince pies for a good singalong.
Stay in: Buttercup Barn – this 5* stone barn is fully equipped for a large family and perfect for animal-lovers as horse and sheep graze nearby.
2. Arts Alive Affordable Art Fair – 6th December 2013
The annual Winter Gathering craft fair offers a hand-picked selection of the region’s talented artists and guests will be greeted with mulled wine on arrival.

3. Talgarth Fair – 7th December 2013
As well as plenty of stalls this fair also has children’s workshops, Christmas carols and craft demonstrations.
Stay in: Cobblestone Cottage – this warm and cosy cottage is perfect for those December evenings in with attic bedrooms and an inglenook fireplace.
4. Bethlehem Christmas Fair – 7th December 2013
You can’t get more Christmassy than the town of Bethlehem itself so come and join in on their annual magical Christmas fair. You could also send your Christmas cards from the Bethlehem post office which will be open!
Stay in: Joshuas – Take a walk of about 3 miles from Joshua’s Cottage and you will arrive at the little hamlet of Bethlehem. You can’t get more Christmassy than that!
5. Myddfai Christmas Fair – 7th December 2013
Come and browse the local crafts and homemade cakes at this little fair to support the community hall.
Stay in: Old Church School – this spacious cottage sleeps 10 with a large kitchen and dining room it’s ideal for a family reunion this December.
Fancy a bit of fun this Christmas? Grab your helmet and have a go on one of these routes with a chance to win big prizes!
Stay in: Cae Marchog – this cottage was made for Christmas celebrations with a roaring open fire and hot tub which can be used whatever the weather.
7. Penpont House Christmas Fair – 7th – 8th December 2013
Artisans and crafts people from the Estate will be showcasing their pieces and stalls will be offering a wide range of unique treasures.
8. Abergavenny Christmas Food & Drink Fair – 8th December
Famous for throwing one of the most successful food festivals in the UK, Abergavenny is doing it again this time all in the name of Christmas.
Stay in: The Tower – live a fairytale in this Elizabethan tower. Guests can sink down into the four poster bed or enjoy the warmth of the open fire.
9. SweetieFest at the Abergavenny Christmas Food & Drink Fair
To launch her new book Adele Nozedar will be demonstrating as well as many exhibitors there will be workshops,, sugar sculpting and even a world record attempt…
Stay in: Strawberry Wood Barn – 5 miles from town this barn is wonderfully private with large gardens, so let the kids run free to wear them out before bedtime.
10. Brecon Farmer’s Market – 14th December 2013
Shop local this Christmas at Brecon Farmer’s Market with all produce from an approximate 30 mile radius of Brecon.
Stay in: Barn Owl Cottage – you won’t be able to resist this cottage with warm decor and a roaring fire it’s made for the festive season.
11. Llangynidr Christmas Market – 15th December 2103
Come and have a mince pie and a singalong in this quaint village, ending the day strolling along the canal.
Stay in: Old Stonemasons – this lovely cottage is set in a wonderfully peaceful location but it does house a piano for a Christmas family singalong.
12. Hay-on-Wye Late Night Shopping and Butter Market – 14th December 2013
Hay has a whole host of boutiques and bookshops, a paradise for those who want to avoid the high street, so come and see for yourself at night.
Stay in: The Birches – spacious, comfortable and a great choice for friends and family who need a long overdue catch up this Christmas.
