We had a wonderful time, staying in Woodmans Cottage. It’s certainly a place for getting away from it all. That approach up through the woods and arrival at the cottage, and the way the view opens up on to the Black Mountains is truly spectacular. The cottage was very clean and well maintained, very comfortable and well equipped.
It was a great place to take our dog. Having the woods literally on the doorstep is a delight and we went out for many longs walks beyond, including a climb up to the top of Lord Hereford’s Knob. We were lucky with the weather; just a couple of very short showers. Took a drive into Hay one day; well worth a closer look.
I do wish we’d gone along rather better supplied. It’s a treat not to want to use the car but we didn’t take enough food supplies with us and by the end of the week were out of many basic items and left with carrots and potatoes. But that of course is nothing at all to do with the cottage, just with our organisation.
Overall I’d rate our stay very high up on our scale of great cottages.
